The All-New BMW X5 Is Coming, and It's Made Right Here in the Carolinas

Published on Aug 24, 2026 by BMW of Greensboro

There is something genuinely exciting about watching a legendary model to reinvent itself, and that is exactly what is happening with the 2027 BMW X5 reveal. Now entering its fifth generation, the X5 is getting one of its biggest transformations. We cannot wait to share it with our Greensboro customers. The new BMW X5 is coming soon, but you can shop our current BMW X5 inventory to see 2026 models today while you wait.

Key Points

  • The 2027 BMW X5 introduces a range of drive systems, including a fully electric iX5 with an estimated 435 miles of range.
  • The redesigned interior features the BMW Panoramic iDrive system, a 17.9-inch Central Display, and an available front passenger entertainment screen.
  • The new X5 will continue to be built at BMW's Plant in Spartanburg in South Carolina, keeping production right here in the Carolinas.

A Redesign Worth Getting Excited About

The 2027 BMW X5 redesign brings the biggest changes the model has seen since it first debuted back in 1999. A few highlights worth knowing:

  • The lineup now offers the broadest range of drive systems that BMW has ever offered on one model. It includes gas, plug-in hybrid, and for the first time, a fully electric iX5. Later on, the brand will release a hydrogen-powered iX5.
  • The all-electric iX5 60 xDrive is expected to deliver an estimated 435 miles of range, along with fast charging and bidirectional charging capability.
  • A striking new front end features the vertically aligned BMW kidney grille with Iconic Glow, giving the X5 an unmistakable new look.
  • The X5 40 xDrive is expected to begin appearing at dealerships in October 2026, followed by the rear-wheel drive X5 40, the plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive, and the electric iX5 60 xDrive in early 2027.

What's New Inside

The 2027 BMW X5 interior takes just as big of a leap as the exterior. Step inside and you will notice:

  • Neue Klasse technology, specifically BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X. It includes a curved display that spans the width of the windshield.
  • A 17.9-inch free-cut Central Display paired with a standard 3D Head-Up Display for a more intuitive, driver-focused layout.
  • An available front passenger screen, letting your passenger stream movies or join video calls while you drive.
  • Roomier rear seating, thanks in part to a 2.4 inch longer wheelbase. This gives you more knee room and comfort.
  • A standard panoramic glass sunroof and available Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos for a genuinely elevated cabin experience

Proudly Built in the Carolinas

Here is something that makes this reveal feel even closer to home. The new X5 will continue to be built at the Home of X, BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This means your next X5 will be assembled right here in the Carolinas. Plant Spartanburg has built the X5 since its original debut in 1999, and it now holds the distinction of building the very first all-electric BMW ever assembled at a U.S. facility. As a North Carolina BMW dealership, there is something special about knowing this next generation SUV is coming together just a short drive from our own showroom.
